“A fun beach read, but with a serious undertone“

First the bad — the current cover for this book doesn’t do it justice at all and really has very little to do with the content. I must say that had someone not pointed this one out to me, I probably wouldn’t have noticed it, much less purchased it. Yes, I judge books by their covers.

I am really glad that a friend of mine did point it out to me because this book was just what I needed to get me out of a reading slump that I found myself in this Summer. It was reasonably light and beachy, but had enough of a plot line and a few serious issues to keep me interested in the storyline.

I was actually quite surprised by the plot and how the authors managed to weave the serious issues between and with Rod and Judith into a lighter read. In some ways, it was sad, yet also made it feel just a little more real.

The writing was great, I saw one little error where Tammi answered Rod’s phone and then just seemingly a few hours later, he couldn’t use it because it ran out of battery the night before, but if that’s the biggest content edit problem I found, we’re doing pretty good. The grammar was well done and it was overall very well written and edited.

This is highly recommended for those that enjoy chick lit, but also like a little meat with it.

My rating: 5 of 5 Stars

WOW, WOW, WOW! Meant To Be by Beverly Butler and Sue Warhaftig is absolutely brilliant. I got so caught up in the character’s unpredictable and crazy lives that I found myself sobbing in parts and grinning like the Cheshire Cat in others. It was so easy to really get into and I found the author’s writing to be truly inspiring throughout.

I was so enraptured by this tale of love and deception that my heart literally ached for poor Judith and I wanted nothing but good to happen to her. She’s a wonderful character, flawed like the rest of us, but with a heart of gold. I felt as if I really got to know her as I read this beautiful story.

When does the next book by Beverly Butler and Sue Warhaftig come out because I know for sure that I HAVE to read it?!

Move over Danielle Steel… there’s a brand new brilliant author duo in town and their names are Sue Warhaftig and Beverly Butler!

  1. Meant to Be is a novel jointly written by Beverly Butler and Sue Warhaftig about a 50-year-old mother Judith McCoy, who has lost her way with the continued PTA meetings, ferrying the children to and from school and somehow completely misplaced her libido but found the bottle.

Judith is married to a successful New York business man Rod McCoy. They were college sweethearts but the years have had a strain on their marriage. This is not helped by the resident office hottie, Tammie. Rod’s midlife crisis could very well cost him his married once Judith becomes aware of what is happening.

Desperate to get herself away from everything that is going wrong in her life, Judith takes the girls and spends the summer holidays at her best friend Debbie’s “beach house”. Judith hits rock bottom and knows that things have to change and she needs to heal herself. She realised what is meant to be.

I was asked to review this book and I am so glad I did. Packed full of emotion, sadness, laughter and sex! (Note … certainly not for the faint hearted or if you blush easily!). Characters that you can believe in and relate too. The story tells the journey of a family and how they try to overcome all the obstacles in front of them with the help of dear friends and some family members. Can they get back what they had or has too much happened to repair the damage?

This book had me at chapter one this morning and I never put it down until the final words this evening.

    A fabulous read!

    Meant to Be,
    Loved it!
There were so many characters that I felt I knew someone like them. It related to almost everyone. Loved the family values. We all get lost along the way, but I’m glad they found their’s back. I was rooting for them all the way. I couldn’t put it down.
